Launch control / 00

Make readiness
reviewable.

An interactive plan for assigning and checking launch work across Enable, Harden, Accelerate, and Recover. It works without an account; signed-in SIU owners may optionally save categorical progress privately. It is not a release gate, monitor, or production control.

USE IT TO: Use the deterministic priority order to make ownership and verification visible, while preserving Unknown and Skip as explicit outcomes rather than implied completion.

METHOD / SOURCE-BOUNDED

Work the next known step.

  1. Choose a lane, then assign each deterministic priority item a state: Ready, Unknown, or Skip. Unknown is a prompt to obtain evidence; Skip requires an accountable decision.
  2. Review the owner and verification statement for every item. Edit the owner field only to name a role or accountable person—never put credentials or customer data in the plan.
  3. Download the current plan to the device when a portable handoff is useful. Optional SIU account saving stores the site label and categorical action states only; URLs, credentials, files, and free-form owner notes are excluded.
INTERACTIVE / CLIENT-ONLY PLAN

The launch control board.

Deterministic order: items stay in their numbered priority sequence. Choose Unknown when evidence is missing; choose Skip only with an accountable decision.

01 / LANE

Enable

Establish the minimum decisions, owners, and audience-facing basics before a release moves.

  1. 01
Name the release intent and the customer path it changes

A small, explicit scope gives reviewers and responders a shared starting point.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Release owner · VERIFICATION: A reviewer can point to the changed path, the intended customer outcome, and the release window in one short record.
  2. 02
Confirm the customer-facing contact and escalation wording

Customers need a clear way to report impact without an improvised message during a change.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Customer communications owner · VERIFICATION: The on-call or support contact is reachable through the approved channel and the public wording has an accountable reviewer.
  3. 03
Walk the primary customer journey before launch

A browser-visible journey can reveal issues that a build result cannot.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Product or QA owner · VERIFICATION: The team records the starting URL, expected outcome, and any required signed-in or payment boundary without using customer data.
02 / LANE

Harden

Make the release and its recovery path easier to inspect, limit, and reverse with the right people.

  1. 04
Capture the release identifier and a reversible change record

A precise reference reduces guesswork if the change must be paused or reversed.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Release owner · VERIFICATION: The release identifier, deployment source, approver, and known rollback route are available to the response owner.
  2. 05
Check that the designated operators have the right access path

Escalation is slower when access assumptions are untested.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Platform owner · VERIFICATION: A non-production or approved dry-run confirms the responsible people can reach the documented tools; do not share credentials in this plan.
  3. 06
Review the dependency and third-party change surface

Third-party changes can alter a launch path even when application code is unchanged.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Engineering owner · VERIFICATION: The release record names new or changed dependencies, external endpoints, and the person who can assess each one.
03 / LANE

Accelerate

Reduce avoidable delivery weight while retaining an observable, reviewed path to launch.

  1. 07
Inspect image candidates at their rendered placements

A source image alone does not indicate which bytes a customer will receive.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Design or performance owner · VERIFICATION: For priority images, the team records the intended rendered width, accessible alternative text, and whether responsive candidates exist.
  2. 08
Set a reviewable delivery budget for the changed path

A stated measurement context is more useful than an unbounded performance promise.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Performance owner · VERIFICATION: The team documents the measure, test context, and acceptable range; it does not infer a universal speed claim.
  3. 09
Choose a small set of post-release observation paths

A focused check is easier to interpret than an unowned list of URLs.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Release owner · VERIFICATION: No more than five relative paths are assigned to an owner with an expected response or observation note.
04 / LANE

Recover

Prepare a calm handoff, an escalation route, and a reversible response before customers need one.

  1. 10
Assign incident, technical, and communications decision roles

Role clarity supports a coordinated response without assuming a single person can diagnose every issue.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Incident response owner · VERIFICATION: Each role has a named accountable person or an explicit escalation path for the release window.
  2. 11
Rehearse the decision boundary for pausing or rolling back

A reversible route is safer when its approval and verification steps are known before pressure rises.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Release owner · VERIFICATION: The team knows the approved trigger, who authorizes it, and what evidence must be captured before and after the action.
  3. 12
Link live service-status work to Status Is Down

SIU provides planning guidance; live service-status work belongs on SID.

ACCOUNTABLE OWNER: Communications owner · VERIFICATION: The communications plan points people to the relevant SID destination for live service signal and updates.
VERIFY / BEFORE YOU RELY

Review all non-ready items with the relevant owner before the release decision.

Confirm verification statements against the actual release environment and documented response process.

Route live status and ongoing incident work to SID and the team’s incident workflow.

EVIDENCE TO RETAIN

Client-side planning export. It is not a release approval, monitoring record, or production control.

AUTHORITY / REVIEW

Source notes, not borrowed certainty.

Planning basis: Google SRE, CISA, OWASP, web.dev, and MDN references used by the linked SIU guides

CONTEXT / KEEP THE HANDOFF CONNECTED

Authorship: SIU Enablement editorial draft; source-bounded operational guidance. Reviewed by: A release owner must review each plan. Optional account saving persists only the site label and categorical action states privately; SIU does not approve a release. Revalidate: Revalidate before a material release and when ownership, tooling, or customer paths change.
